The Tempest by William Shakespeare
This production of Shakespeare’s drama of magic and revenge howled across a post-colonial island amid the debris of technology and popular culture. Prospero’s shack, a beachcomber’s amalgam sat on eleven tons of white, New Jersey sand with Caliban’s cell, a sawed-off Volkswagen Beetle, parked beneath. A plethora of televisions broadcast Prospero’s eminence and surveillance over all the isle.
