The premise is this: five stereotypical immigrants – Italian, French, Chinese, Japanese, and German – attend an English as a Second Language nightclass. None but the neurotic, authoritarian teacher (with the Polish name Wastba, i.e. wastebasket) speaks a word of English in this comedy about miscommunication and intolerance. The compressed box set, a drab, urban classroom, was built on a high stage in a studio theater offering the audience a peek through-a-window experience.
