Antigone by Sophocles
This skeletal rendition of a classic Greek skene , or theater scene house, enclosed a courtyard before the royal palace at Thebes. Wooden grid panels permitted views through the walls and into the house providing a solid but transparent architecture, at once ancient and contemporary. An effigy of the slain Polynices lay upon a raised platform, emblematic of the tragic story unfolding.
