A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare
This Midsummer was placed on an enchanted Hawaiian island. The play takes place at night under the stars and by moonlight. Hawaiian chanting and hula with drums and ukulele established the musical environment while a surreal juxtaposition of elements and effects created an atmosphere of dreamlike mystery: a thatched bamboo tiki hut, tropical flowers, an erupting volcano, a waterfall, fog and mist; a sacred circle and jungle was filled with sounds and projections; and beasts of the night – a tortoise, a gecko, and a wild boar – crossed paths with the confused lovers.
